New Delhi— A shocking incident unfolded at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, where an Air India Express pilot allegedly assaulted a fellow passenger, prompting the airline to order an internal investigation and suspend the accused pilot.
According to sources, the incident occurred at Terminal 1 of the Delhi airport. The pilot involved was not on duty at the time and was travelling as a passenger on another airline when the altercation took place.
The passenger, identified as Ankit Diwan, took to social media platform X to share details of the incident. He posted images showing blood on his face following the alleged assault and also shared a photograph of the pilot involved. The visuals quickly gained attention online, triggering widespread outrage.
In an official statement, Air India Express acknowledged the incident and confirmed that one of its employees was involved in a dispute with another passenger while travelling as a civilian. The airline strongly condemned the behaviour and said the matter was being taken seriously.
“Such conduct is unacceptable. The concerned employee has been immediately suspended from all official duties pending the outcome of an internal inquiry. Appropriate disciplinary action will be initiated based on the findings of the investigation,” the airline said.
Ankit Diwan further stated that the accused pilot, identified as Captain Virender Sejwal, allegedly attacked him at Terminal 1. He also claimed that his seven-year-old daughter witnessed the incident and has been left traumatised and frightened.
The matter is currently under investigation, and further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry. Airport authorities have not yet issued a separate statement on the incident.
