Nagpur— A 25-year-old first-year dermatology student at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur, allegedly died by suicide in her apartment in the Sonegaon area, police said on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Samruddhi Pandey, was the daughter of IPS officer Krishnakant Pandey, who is currently serving as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the CRPF in Pune. She was found dead in her flat at Manjira Apartments, Shiv Kailash, on Tuesday evening.

According to a police official, preliminary investigation indicates suicide. Samruddhi had reportedly been under stress for several days. Her roommate discovered the flat locked from the inside and, after entering through another access point, found her hanging from the ceiling fan before alerting the police.

A panchnama was conducted at the scene, and the post-mortem report is awaited. Authorities are also questioning her friends to piece together the events leading up to her death.

Police have not recovered any suicide note so far, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
