New Delhi: Adani Power Ltd. (APL), India’s largest private sector thermal power generator, has signed a 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) to deliver 2,400 MW of electricity from a new ultra supercritical plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur.
The agreement follows a Letter of Award (LoA) granted in August on behalf of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (SBPDCL). Adani Power secured the project with the lowest bid at ₹6.075 per kWh.
The company plans to invest around USD 3 billion to set up the 2,400 MW (3×800 MW) plant along with supporting infrastructure under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. The coal requirement for the facility has already been allocated under the Government of India’s SHAKTI policy.
Construction of the project is expected to generate employment for nearly 10,000–12,000 people, while around 3,000 jobs will be created once the plant becomes operational. The plant is targeted for full commissioning within 60 months.
Adani Power, part of the Adani Group, currently has an installed thermal power capacity of 18,110 MW across multiple states, along with a 40 MW solar power unit in Gujarat. With the Bhagalpur project, the company aims to strengthen its position while supporting Bihar’s power needs and contributing to India’s energy security.
