Jorhat, Assam: Five Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel lost their lives after an An-32 transport aircraft crashed during a routine sortie at the Rowriah Air Force Station in Jorhat, Assam. The co-pilot of the aircraft survived the impact and was immediately rushed to receive medical attention, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
According to military officials, the Russian-origin tactical transport aircraft belonged to the 43 Squadron and was carrying cargo when it veered off course, missed the runway, and crashed outside the designated airstrip area. Local eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by dense plumes of smoke engulfing the area. Emergency response teams and firefighting units were immediately deployed to manage the crash site and douse the flames.
The Indian Air Force has sealed off the airbase to clear the wreckage and has formally constituted a Court of Inquiry to investigate the technical reasons behind the fatal crash.
