Solan, Himachal Pradesh: A devastating fire in the early hours of Monday claimed the life of a young boy and left several others feared trapped after it tore through buildings in the Arki subdivision of Solan district.
According to police officials, the blaze broke out between 2:30 and 3:00 am near the UCO Bank branch located close to the Old Bus Stand. The fire spread rapidly, engulfing two adjoining buildings that were home to multiple families, giving residents little time to escape.
The situation worsened as LPG cylinders stored inside the structures exploded, intensifying the flames and causing extensive destruction. By the time the fire was brought under control, both buildings had been completely reduced to debris, and a large portion of the surrounding market area stood gutted.
Firefighting teams from multiple locations, including Ambuja Cements Darlaghat, Banalegi, Boileuganj, and Solan, were pressed into service along with local fire units. After hours of effort, the flames were finally contained around 7:00 am.
Solan Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh confirmed that the body of a boy, believed to be around seven or eight years old, was recovered from the UCO Bank premises, which also caught fire. Meanwhile, four to five people are suspected to be trapped under the rubble, and rescue operations are still underway.
District Commissioner Manmohan Sharma and Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi visited the site to assess the damage and monitor rescue and relief efforts. Police personnel and disaster response teams continue to search the debris for survivors.
Authorities have stated that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and an investigation will be conducted once rescue operations conclude.
