Kangana Ranaut Faces Protests During Manali Visit, Says Her Business Also Hit by Flood Disaster

Manali: Amid rising public anger over her prolonged absence from flood-affected areas, Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut faced protests and black flag demonstrations during her visit to Naggar near Manali on Friday. The actor-turned-politician was met with slogans of “Go back Kangana” by Youth Congress workers, who questioned the timing of her visit—24 days after the region was devastated by torrential rains and landslides.

Kangana, who was accompanied by BJP leader and former minister Govind Singh Thakur, encountered a barrage of criticism from locals and media alike, as residents continue to struggle with the aftermath of one of the worst natural disasters the region has seen in years.

“I, Too, Am a Victim,” Says MP

Responding to questions about her absence, Kangana insisted that she, too, has suffered losses. “I own a restaurant here in Manali, and business has dropped to just Rs 50 a day. Meanwhile, I’m paying Rs 15 lakh in staff salaries each month,” she said, defending herself from accusations of insensitivity.

The remarks, which were captured on video and widely circulated on social media, have sparked backlash online, with many questioning her understanding of the scale of suffering endured by ordinary citizens, some of whom have lost their homes, livelihoods, and family members.

In another moment that drew attention, Kangana said, “I’m not the Queen of England, I can’t do everything.” Critics were quick to point out that, as an elected representative, her presence and support during the crisis should have been a priority.

Public Discontent Mounts

Himachal Pradesh has been grappling with the aftermath of record-breaking rainfall, which caused widespread landslides, damaged infrastructure, and displaced hundreds. As winter approaches, residents in flood-hit areas are demanding swift relief and rehabilitation, fearing they won’t be able to rebuild their homes in time.

Kangana Ranaut’s visit was viewed by many as “too little, too late,” with some accusing her of being more visible on social media than on the ground during the disaster.

Focus on the State Government’s Role

Kangana Ranaut also used the opportunity to criticize the Himachal Pradesh Government, stating that the Centre had allocated Rs 10,000 crore in aid, and her visit was meant to review how the funds were being utilized. She has previously accused the Congress-led state government of mishandling disaster relief and financial resources.

“There’s a need to ensure that the money reaches the people who actually need it. That is why I am here now,” she told reporters.

Political Fallout Continues

While the state reels from the disaster, the political blame game between the BJP and the ruling Congress has intensified. The delay in restoration efforts and disbursement of relief funds has led to frustration on the ground, and public patience appears to be wearing thin.

As local communities continue to pick up the pieces, there’s growing demand for accountability and immediate action, regardless of political affiliations. For many, the presence of their elected representatives during the time of crisis is not just symbolic—but essential.
