Shimla: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of widespread monsoon activity across Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, warning that intense rainfall in parts of the state could increase the risk of landslides, flash floods and disruption to essential services.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for nine districts — Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Una — where isolated heavy showers are expected during the day. Rainfall was reported from several regions overnight, signalling a fresh surge in monsoon activity.
Authorities have advised residents and tourists to remain cautious, particularly in hilly stretches that are vulnerable to slope failures and falling debris. Officials cautioned that persistent rain may lead to temporary road closures, traffic disruptions, and interruptions in electricity and drinking water supply in affected areas.
Disaster management agencies have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel through landslide-prone routes and refrain from venturing close to rivers, seasonal streams and nullahs, where water levels can rise suddenly during heavy rainfall.
The weather office also appealed to farmers and orchard owners to monitor local forecasts before carrying out agricultural and horticultural activities, as intermittent showers are likely to continue over the coming days.
Despite the wet weather, temperatures remained relatively high on Friday. Una recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 38.6 degrees Celsius, while most districts experienced temperatures above seasonal averages with little variation over the previous 24 hours.
Meteorologists expect the current monsoon phase to persist, bringing intermittent rain to many parts of Himachal over the next several days. The administration has asked residents to stay updated with official weather advisories and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities to minimise risks during the ongoing spell.
