Chandigarh: Voting for several crucial urban local body elections across Haryana began on Sunday morning, with polling stations opening at 8:00 AM amid tight security arrangements. Citizens will be able to cast their votes until 6:00 PM.
The elections are being held for municipal corporations in Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat, along with the municipal council in Rewari. Polling is also taking place for municipal committees in Sampla, Dharuhera and Uklana.
Election authorities have made extensive arrangements to ensure smooth polling, including deployment of security personnel and monitoring teams at sensitive booths. Officials have appealed to voters to participate in large numbers and exercise their democratic right peacefully.
The civic polls are being closely watched as a major political contest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition Indian National Congress, with both parties aggressively campaigning in most urban centres.
Political analysts view the elections as an important indicator of public sentiment ahead of future state-level political battles, especially in urban constituencies where local governance issues often shape voter choices.
Counting of votes for municipal bodies is scheduled for May 13, while counting for panchayat elections will begin immediately after polling concludes later in the day.
The results are expected to provide significant insight into the political mood across Haryana’s urban regions and could influence strategies for both major parties in the months ahead.
