Gurugram: A government-employed doctor has been taken into custody after allegedly driving his SUV into a Swiggy delivery executive in Gurugram, leaving the victim seriously injured, police officials said on Tuesday.
The incident took place late Monday night in Sector 93’s Hayatpur area. The injured delivery worker, identified as Tinku Panwar, was rushed to a civil hospital in Gurugram, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police identified the accused as Naveen Yadav, an Ayurveda practitioner posted at a primary health centre in Daulatabad. His black Scorpio SUV, which was allegedly used in the attack, has been seized. Preliminary investigations suggest the doctor was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
According to investigators, the street where the incident occurred houses a Swiggy warehouse and often sees heavy movement of delivery personnel. Police said the accused was reportedly upset over delivery agents frequently gathering in the area. This irritation is believed to have escalated into violence.
CCTV footage from the locality shows the SUV turning abruptly and crashing into a motorcycle parked under a tree, striking Panwar in the process. Officials said that when other delivery workers confronted the driver, he allegedly lost his temper, reversed the vehicle, and tried to mow down people standing nearby, damaging several motorcycles along the road.
After the incident, the driver fled the scene but was later tracked down and arrested by the police.
A case of attempted murder has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events and verify allegations of intoxication. Police said additional charges could be added based on forensic and medical reports.
