Rohtak: Panic gripped Meham town in Haryana’s Rohtak district after unidentified persons allegedly opened fire at the office of Congress MLA Balram Dangi during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. No injuries were reported as the office was locked when the incident occurred.
The attack came to light on Saturday morning when the office caretaker arrived and noticed shattered glass panels at the entrance. A closer inspection revealed multiple bullet marks, prompting an immediate alert to the police.
According to preliminary findings, four to five rounds appear to have struck the front portion of the office building, which is located directly opposite the Meham Police Station. Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information and cordoned off the area for investigation.
As part of the probe, officials seized the digital video recorder (DVR) connected to the CCTV surveillance system installed at the premises. Investigators are examining the footage to identify the attackers and establish the sequence of events.
Speaking on the incident, MLA Balram Dangi said he was informed about the firing early in the morning and confirmed that no one was present inside the office at the time. He added that he has not named or suspected anyone and has left the matter to the police investigation.
The brazen firing has raised concerns over law and order, particularly because the office is situated in a busy locality and close to the police station. Authorities are exploring all possible angles, including whether the incident was intended as an act of intimidation or a targeted attack.
Police officials said forensic evidence is being collected from the site, and further action will depend on the findings from CCTV footage and other technical inputs. Security in the area has also been intensified as the investigation continues.
