CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab State Media In-Charge Baltej Pannu on Wednesday strongly criticised BJP leader and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu over his conduct during the Dhuri municipal elections, calling it shameful, condemnable and reflective of the BJP’s “arrogance of power”. Addressing a press conference, Pannu alleged that Bittu publicly abused Punjab Police personnel, insulted a woman SSP and interfered with election duty despite not being a resident or voter of Dhuri. He said election rules do not permit outsiders to remain in the constituency after campaigning ends, yet Bittu allegedly violated these norms and obstructed police officials deployed on duty.
Pannu claimed that Ravneet Singh Bittu grabbed the collar of a Gursikh police employee, used abusive language and referred to police personnel with derogatory remarks. He further alleged that Bittu threatened Sangrur SSP Navjot Kaur Grewal by making inappropriate remarks and also used casteist language during the incident. Pannu said Punjab Police has played a historic role in eliminating terrorism and is currently leading the fight against drugs, making such insults highly unfortunate and unacceptable.
Targeting the BJP leader politically, Baltej Pannu reminded Bittu that his own brother had allegedly been recruited into Punjab Police on compassionate grounds during the previous Congress government after relaxation in rules. He asserted that officers being abused today had earned their positions through merit and hard work. Pannu also said the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government stands firmly with Punjab Police and would not allow anyone to demoralise the force or undermine law and order in the state. He demanded that Ravneet Singh Bittu issue an unconditional apology to Punjab Police, the woman officer and the families of the personnel involved.
