CHANDIGARH/MOHALI: At the Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit 2026, Punjab Industries and Commerce Minister Sanjeev Arora said that Mohali is rapidly emerging as a major technology and start-up hub under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Addressing a high-powered session titled “Brand Mohali” at Plaksha University, the minister said the city is moving beyond its identity as a satellite town and is steadily developing into a global technology and innovation destination, with the potential to become the region’s “Silicon Valley.”

Arora announced that the Punjab government will establish a dedicated start-up hub at Kalkat Bhavan, inspired by South Korea’s renowned Pangyo Techno Valley. He said the project, already approved by the chief minister, will act as a central hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. Highlighting the new industrial policy, he added that IT companies and data centres have been shifted from commercial to industrial power tariffs, ensuring that firms in Mohali receive some of the cheapest electricity in the country. The government is also offering subsidies of ₹5,000 per employee per month for IT firms and ₹7,000 for Global Capability Centres to attract investment and talent.

During the session, officials also highlighted Mohali’s growing infrastructure and investment potential. Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development Vikas Garg said land worth more than ₹10,000 crore has been auctioned in the past year, with plans to acquire another 7,000 acres for future development. He added that the government’s goal is to place Mohali prominently on Asia’s technology and investment map while strengthening sectors such as IT, hospitality, education and healthcare.
