CHANDIGARH: In a major step to further strengthen the public healthcare system, the Bhagwant Singh Mann Government has issued advertisements for the recruitment of 672 Staff Nurses to improve service delivery across government health institutions. Eligible candidates have been invited to apply through the official online portal of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. The online application portal will remain open from 13 March 2026 to 02 April 2026, and candidates can submit their applications for these posts under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab through the university’s website. This recruitment comes in addition to the earlier sanctioned 406 Staff Nurse posts, out of which 275 appointment orders have already been issued and the nurses have been deployed in various Sub-Divisional and District Hospitals across Punjab.
Earlier in January this year, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann personally handed over appointment letters to 282 newly recruited nurses, highlighting the government’s focus on timely recruitment and strengthening healthcare services. The recruitment of 672 additional nurses is expected to significantly strengthen the nursing workforce, particularly at the primary and secondary healthcare levels, while also improving patient care and reducing the workload in government hospitals. Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh said the government remains committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and manpower across the state and has already recruited doctors, specialists and paramedical staff to improve services in government hospitals.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has consistently expanded healthcare infrastructure and manpower. In recent years, more than 1500 doctors have been appointed, including over 600 specialists and 948 general doctors, significantly strengthening medical services in the state. The government has also expanded the network of Aam Aadmi Clinics and enhanced the availability of free medicines and modern medical equipment through procurement exceeding ₹300 crore. Additionally, families across Punjab are receiving health coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per year under the Mukhya Mantri Sehat Yojana, while the recruitment of 672 staff nurses is expected to further improve patient care, support increasing OPD and IPD loads, strengthen maternal and child health services, and ensure better healthcare delivery at the community level.
