Chandigarh/Dasuya (Hoshiarpur), May 3, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched a sharp political attack on opposition parties during a Lok Milni outreach event held in Dasuya constituency of Hoshiarpur district, asserting that his government remains firmly committed to safeguarding and continuing welfare schemes for the people.
Addressing a large gathering, the Chief Minister categorically stated that as long as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) remains in power, key public welfare initiatives—including financial assistance for women and free electricity for households—will not be discontinued under any circumstances. He described these schemes as essential pillars of his government’s governance model, aimed at easing the financial burden on ordinary families.
CM Mann emphasized that his administration has worked to transform governance from a system of announcements to one focused on real delivery. “Policies are no longer confined to files; they are reaching people on the ground,” he remarked, underlining that the government’s approach is rooted in practical outcomes rather than political rhetoric.
Referring to sensitive issues of public concern, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s move to strengthen legal provisions in cases related to sacrilege. He said that stricter laws have been put in place to ensure accountability and deterrence, describing it as a step not only to uphold law and order but also to restore public confidence.
He further noted that his government’s vision extends beyond immediate governance, focusing on building a long-term, transparent, and accountable administrative system that benefits future generations. According to him, every policy decision is being shaped with the objective of improving citizens’ quality of life.
Opposition Accused of Misleading Public, CM Calls It ‘Politics of Distraction’
Taking aim at rival political parties, CM Bhagwant Mann accused them of attempting to derail the state’s progress by spreading misinformation and creating unnecessary confusion among the public. He alleged that the opposition is unsettled by the pace of development and governance reforms being undertaken by the current administration.
He specifically criticised traditional political parties, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, stating that their past governance left behind structural challenges that the current government is now addressing. “Those who once controlled the system are now uncomfortable with transparency and accountability,” he said.
The Chief Minister asserted that the people of Punjab are no longer easily influenced by political narratives that lack substance. He expressed confidence that voters can distinguish between genuine governance efforts and politically motivated criticism.
Describing his leadership style, CM Mann said he prefers direct engagement with citizens rather than relying on bureaucratic distance. He reiterated that public interaction through platforms like Lok Milni helps the government remain grounded and responsive to real issues faced by people.
He also pointed out that previous governments often remained disconnected from grassroots realities, whereas the current administration is actively working among the people. This, he said, has allowed the government to better understand local concerns and respond effectively.
CM Mann accused the opposition of being driven primarily by electoral ambitions rather than public welfare. In contrast, he maintained that his government is focused on long-term development and inclusive growth.
Focus on Welfare Schemes, Governance Reforms and Development
Highlighting key achievements, the Chief Minister said that the free electricity scheme has provided significant relief to a large number of households, helping reduce monthly expenses and improve financial stability for families.
On employment, he stated that the government has adopted a transparent recruitment process, ensuring that deserving candidates secure jobs without any political interference or corruption. This, he said, has helped restore trust among the youth.
Speaking about healthcare, CM Mann noted that several initiatives have been launched to expand access to quality medical services. He emphasized that the government is working to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent people from receiving necessary treatment.
On women’s empowerment, he reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening financial independence among women through targeted support schemes. According to him, these initiatives are already contributing to improving the socio-economic standing of women across the state.
Education was another key area highlighted by the Chief Minister. He said that improving the quality of education remains a top priority, as it plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the state. Investments in infrastructure, teacher training, and modern learning practices are being undertaken to enhance the overall education system.
