Chandigarh, June 4, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday reviewed two major projects aimed at promoting the state’s cultural and religious heritage. During a high-level meeting of the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department, the Chief Minister approved the construction of a grand Welcome Gate at the Shambhu border and also cleared the revised Heritage Street project at Sri Anandpur Sahib.
The projects are expected to strengthen Punjab’s cultural identity, enhance tourism, and provide visitors with a richer experience of the state’s historical and spiritual heritage.
Heritage Street to Connect Major Religious Sites
The approved Heritage Street project at Sri Anandpur Sahib will connect several important Sikh religious and historical landmarks. The proposed route will begin near Quilla Sri Anandgarh Sahib and extend to Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Park, Gurdwara Sisganj Sahib and Gurdwara Bhora Sahib.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the project has been designed to improve the spiritual and heritage experience for devotees and tourists visiting the holy city. He added that all necessary approvals from the Ministry of Tourism and other concerned authorities will be obtained to ensure smooth implementation of the project.
The government also plans to constitute a high-powered committee to monitor and oversee the execution of the project.
₹12 Crore Welcome Gate Planned at Shambhu Border
The Chief Minister also approved the construction of a grand Welcome Gate at the Shambhu border on the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) four-lane highway. The project is estimated to cost around ₹12 crore.
According to the government, the gate will serve as a symbol of Punjab’s rich cultural heritage and traditional architecture. The structure has been designed to blend with the existing highway infrastructure while creating a distinctive visual identity at the entrance to the state.
Bhagwant Mann said the gate will feature traditional Punjabi design elements, including stone cladding, decorative jali work, Phulkari-inspired artwork and other artistic features representing the state’s heritage.
A unique aspect of the design is its connection to the meaning of “Panj-ab” or “Land of Five Rivers.” To reflect this identity, the gateway will include five domes on each side, symbolising the unity and significance of Punjab’s five rivers.
Cabinet Ministers Harjot Singh Bains and Tarunpreet Singh Sondh, along with senior government officials, were also present during the meeting. The Punjab Government believes these projects will help preserve the state’s heritage while promoting religious and cultural tourism in the region.
