Chandigarh: Under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is committed to the welfare of all sections of society. Focused efforts are being made to ensure the safety, dignity, and overall development of orphaned and dependent children in the state. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that so far, ₹314.22 crore has been released as financial assistance, bringing stability and security to thousands of young lives.

She added that under this scheme, 2,37,406 orphaned and dependent children across Punjab are receiving regular financial support. This helps them continue their education, integrate into mainstream society, and move towards a self-reliant future. Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized that orphaned and dependent children are not just government statistics but a shared responsibility of society.

The minister further explained that children below 21 years of age are eligible if both parents are deceased, missing, or unable to care for the family due to physical or mental incapacity. She concluded by stating that this initiative is not limited to financial assistance alone but reflects the Mann Government’s firm commitment to providing a safe, dignified, and bright future for every child in Punjab.
