SHIMLA : Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the state-of-the-art digital museum at Bantony, Shimla on Friday, marking a significant step towards preserving and promoting the rich cultural and historical heritage of Himachal Pradesh through modern digital technology.
He said that Bantony occupies a special place in the history of Shimla and the inauguration of the digital museum marks the beginning of a new chapter in the conservation, celebration and global promotion of the State’s heritage.
“This is not merely the inauguration of another institution, but the beginning of a new era in heritage conservation. The digital museum will serve as a bridge between the past and the future, enabling visitors to experience the rich history and vibrant culture of Himachal Pradesh in an engaging and immersive manner,” he said.
Sh. Sukhu said that the museum has been designed to make history accessible and engaging for visitors of all age groups through advanced digital technologies, including high-resolution 3D scanning, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), interactive timelines and immersive storytelling. These innovative features will allow visitors to explore the State’s rich folk traditions, handicrafts, spiritual heritage and the inspiring stories of its freedom fighters in a dynamic and interactive environment.
He said that the museum presents a comprehensive narrative of Shimla’s evolution from its emergence as a Himalayan hill town to its transformation into a city of historical significance. It showcases the heritage marvels of Himachal Pradesh, the lives and contributions of eminent personalities, the historic Kalka-Shimla Railway, the journey of Himachal Pradesh since its formation, the State’s vibrant art and culture and its rich culinary traditions, which form an integral part of its cultural identity.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the digital museum would emerge as a landmark institution and a symbol of Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural identity. It would not only preserve the State’s invaluable heritage for future generations but also promote it before a global audience through the effective use of cutting-edge technology.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, Vice Chairman, State Disaster Management Authority Deepak Rathore, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, DC Anupam Kashyap and Director Language Art and Culture Reema Kashyap were also present on the occasion.
