Chandigarh: Haryana Financial Commissioner, Revenue & Disaster Management Department and Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Sumita Misra, on Monday reviewed the state’s extensive preparations for the upcoming International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 and directed all departments to ensure smooth coordination for the successful conduct of yoga events across the state.

Chairing a high-level review meeting, Dr. Misra emphasized that yoga has emerged as a powerful tool for promoting physical well-being, mental health and a healthy lifestyle. She called for intensified public participation to make this year’s celebrations a people’s movement and further strengthen Haryana’s commitment to wellness and fitness.

During the meeting, officials informed that the state has adopted the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” for IDY-2026, while the campaign is being carried out under the slogans “Har Ghar Yoga, Har Din Yoga” and “Yoga Yukt Nasha-Mukt Haryana.”

Reviewing district-wise progress, Dr. Misra noted with satisfaction that yoga activities have been underway across Haryana since May 18 and have already witnessed participation from more than 20.36 lakh citizens. It was apprised in the meeting that over 13.05 lakh people participated in departmental yoga programmes conducted across districts during the campaign period.

The ACS reviewed preparations by various departments, including Health, Education, Sports, Urban Local Bodies, Women and Child Development, Police, Skill Development and Medical Education, which have been assigned specific responsibilities to maximize outreach and public engagement. She directed officers that all venues should be equipped with adequate drinking water and medical facilities etc.

Dr. Misra also reviewed arrangements for district-level and block-level events scheduled across Haryana. The state-level International Yoga Day programme will be organized at Parade Ground, Sector-5, Panchkula, while similar large-scale events will be held simultaneously in all districts.

She directed officers to ensure adequate infrastructure, public participation, awareness campaigns and inter-departmental coordination so that Haryana sets new benchmarks in promoting yoga as a way of life and advancing the vision of a healthier and drug-free society.

Dr. Sumita Misra urged the district administrations to actively involve local community groups, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), educational institutions, and other stakeholders in organizing Yoga Day events at their respective levels. Emphasizing the importance of community participation, she encouraged extensive promotion of the celebrations through social media platforms and appealed to citizens to share and tag their Yoga Day photographs to create greater awareness and inspire wider participation. She stressed that International Day of Yoga should not remain merely a government programme but evolve into a true people’s movement and a collective celebration of health, wellness, and social harmony.
