Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said providing better, modern and specialised healthcare facilities closer to the people is a priority of the State Government. The government is continuously strengthening healthcare services as well as medical education facilities in medical colleges and hospitals across the State so that people have access to better treatment, particularly in cases of serious illnesses and medical emergencies.

The Chief Minister was chairing a meeting of the State Finance Committee at the Secretariat on Wednesday, where the Phase-II expansion of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMC), Karnal, was discussed. Health Minister Smt. Arti Singh Rao was also present at the meeting.

Under Phase-II, the medical facilities and capacity of the hospital will be expanded substantially, enabling people from Karnal and adjoining areas to access better specialised and super-speciality healthcare services.

The Chief Minister was apprised that the MBBS admission capacity of the medical college is also proposed to be increased from 120 to 250 seats. This will significantly augment the institution’s capacity for medical education and training of doctors.
