Chandigarh: In a significant step towards strengthening environmental governance and promoting ease of doing business, the State of Haryana has adopted the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024, thereby giving effect to the amendments made to the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, as applicable to the State.
The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 was enacted to provide for the prevention and control of water pollution and for maintaining or restoring the wholesomeness of water.
The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024 introduces important reforms aimed at simplifying regulatory procedures, rationalising penalties and promoting a more trust-based compliance framework, while continuing to ensure effective environmental protection.
