Chief Electoral Officer Reviews Progress of SIR Work with Deputy Commissioners

Chandigarh: Chief Electoral Officer Haryana, A. Sreenivas held a video conference with all Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officers to review the progress of ongoing electoral roll revision work under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various important aspects of the SIR process and measures to ensure its timely, transparent and effective completion across the State. Besides this, the status of preparation, printing and distribution of notices was reviewed. Discussions were also held on preparing lists of claims and objections received under Forms 9, 10, 11, 11A and 11B and sharing these lists with political parties weekly. Necessary directions in this regard were also discussed.

The progress in the disposal of Forms 6, 7 and 8 was also reviewed. The meeting further discussed organising special camps for eligible citizens registering as voters for the first time. A total of 17,926 Form 6 applications and 17,647 Form 8 applications have been received in the State. It was emphasised that a declaration is required to be submitted along with Forms 6 and 8.

The role of BLA-II (Booth Level Agent-II) was also discussed in detail. The meeting deliberated on the participation of political parties in the SIR process, coordination at the booth level and the role of BLA-II in matters relating to claims and objections. During the period for filing claims and objections, which continues till August 30, each BLA-II may submit a maximum of 30 forms, along with an undertaking, to the BLO.

The Chief Electoral Officer emphasised the need for continuous monitoring of SIR-related work, better coordination and completion of the exercise within the stipulated timeline. In the meeting, detailed discussions were also held on challenges emerging at the district level and measures for their effective resolution.
