Chandigarh: Haryana Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa said that after ensuring clean drinking water supply to every household in the State, the government is now laying special emphasis on water conservation, preventing wastage and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the water supply system.

The Cabinet Minister said this while presenting Haryana’s initiatives in water supply, water conservation and sewerage at the two-day departmental summit of the Ministry of Jal Shakti in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, along with ministers and senior officers of departments dealing with water and drinking water from across the country, participated in the summit.

The summit deliberated on water availability in the States, water conservation, efficient management of drinking water schemes and future water requirements. Ranbir Gangwa said such summits provide States with a valuable opportunity to learn from each other’s best practices and collectively find solutions to water-related challenges.

Tap Water Supply to Every Rural Household Achieved

Ranbir Gangwa said Haryana has completed the task of providing tap water supply to rural households and the government is now focusing on sustaining and further strengthening the system.

He said recharge wells are being installed in dark zones to conserve groundwater. Of the 31 recharge wells sanctioned, 26 have been installed and 12 have become operational. In addition, plans are underway to convert around 235 old and abandoned tubewells into recharge wells so that rainwater can be channelled into the ground.
