Governor stresses preservation of Himachal’s rich dialect heritage

Shimla: Governor Kavinder Gupta today emphasized the need to preserve the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh by documenting and promoting the various local dialects spoken across the State. He said that the dialects of Himachal reflect the identity, traditions and collective wisdom of its people and must be preserved for future generations through literary and written forms.

The Governor was speaking during a meeting with senior author Dr. O.P. Sharma, who called on the Governor at Lok Bhavan, today. On the occasion, Dr. O.P. Sharma presented his poetry collection titled ‘Mhari Soch’ to the Governor.

While interacting with the author, Kavinder Gupta said that Himachal Pradesh is known not only for its natural beauty but also for its vibrant folk traditions, languages and cultural diversity. He observed that local dialects such as Kangri, Mandyali, Kullvi, Sirmauri, Kinnauri and others are an invaluable part of the State’s cultural identity and should be encouraged through literature, research and academic documentation.

The Governor said: “Languages and dialects are the soul of a society. Preserving our regional dialects in written form is essential to safeguard our cultural roots and pass on our rich heritage to the coming generations.”

He further said that literature plays a vital role in strengthening social values and cultural consciousness. Appreciating the literary contributions of writers and poets, he said that authors have an important responsibility in preserving regional traditions and promoting local languages through their creative work.

Kavinder Gupta lauded the efforts of Dr. O.P. Sharma in promoting Himachali literature and wished him success in his future literary endeavours.
