Governor Kavinder Gupta today formally launched the Self-Enumeration Drive for the first phase of Census-2027 in Himachal Pradesh from Lok Bhavan. The statewide campaign will be conducted from 1 to 15 June, 2026, enabling citizens to voluntarily complete their census details through the digital self-enumeration platform.

Marking the commencement of the campaign, the Governor completed his own self-enumeration through the online portal. Director, Census Operations Himachal Pradesh Deep Shikha Sharma, along with other senior officers of the department briefed the Governor about the various features and procedures of the digital census process.

After successfully completing the process, the Governor issued a message to the people of the state highlighting the importance of the Census. He said that the Census is not merely an exercise for collecting demographic data but serves as the foundation for future development planning and the formulation of public welfare policies and programmes. Kavinder Gupta appealed to all citizens of the state to actively participate in this important national exercise and complete their self-enumeration enthusiastically from 1  to  15 June, 2026.

The Governor urged citizens to carefully preserve the ‘Self-Enumeration ID’ generated by the portal upon completion of the process. He said that during the subsequent phase, from 16 June to 15 July, 2026, enumerators would visit households across the state and citizens should provide this Self-Enumeration ID to facilitate the smooth completion of the census exercise. Emphasizing the significance of accurate information, the Governor appealed to residents to furnish correct and authentic details while completing the self-enumeration process.

The Governor said that accurate data is essential for effective governance and planning. Several welfare schemes of the Central and state governments are directly linked to demographic information. He said that by providing correct details, citizens can ensure proper representation and better access to the benefits of various government programmes.

The Governor further said that several developmental assessments and planning requirements pending since the 2011 Census would greatly benefit from the updated and accurate data collected through Census 2027.

He said that Himachal Pradesh, along with Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand, contains large snow-bound and geographically challenging regions. Therefore, the self-enumeration exercise has been given priority in these states to facilitate timely and efficient data collection.

Calling upon all sections of society to support the initiative, Sh Gupta said that public participation is key to the success of the digital census exercise and will contribute significantly towards the planned and inclusive development of the state and the nation.

The Governor urged citizens to make the Self-Enumeration Drive a success and play their valuable role in shaping the future development roadmap of Himachal Pradesh.
