Chandigarh: Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao announced that the state will observe the ‘Zero Preventable Maternal Death Fortnight’ from July 7 to July 22 across all districts to strengthen maternal healthcare and further reduce the maternal mortality rate. She said every pregnant woman in Haryana must receive timely, quality and comprehensive maternal healthcare services, directing officials to intensify community outreach so that no woman is deprived of essential antenatal care or institutional delivery services.

Sharing details of the campaign, NHM Haryana Mission Director Dr. R.S. Dhillon said detailed review meetings have been held with all Civil Surgeons, who have been instructed to identify high-risk pregnancies, strengthen antenatal care, ensure timely referrals, maintain round-the-clock preparedness at First Referral Units (FRUs), and closely monitor women requiring special attention. District health officials have also been directed to ensure prompt response to obstetric emergencies, uninterrupted functioning of labour rooms and maternity facilities, and adequate availability of blood and emergency obstetric care.

NHM Director Dr. Virender Yadav said the Health Department has sought active support from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Haryana, and the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), Haryana Chapter to achieve the goal of zero preventable maternal deaths. As part of the initiative, private doctors associated with IMA and FOGSI will provide two free postnatal check-ups to women delivering at their hospitals within seven days of childbirth, helping ensure quality postnatal care and timely management of any high-risk complications.
