Chandigarh: Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has revealed the depth of loneliness and emotional pain he has endured in recent years, describing a life marked by isolation and unresolved heartbreak. The 62-year-old, father of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, opened up during a conversation with Vintage Studio, excerpts of which were reported by Hindustan Times.
Yograj, known as much for his cricketing grit as for his outspoken nature, said the most devastating moment of his life came when his first wife, Shabnam, and their son Yuvraj parted ways with him. Recalling the emotional blow, he said he struggled to understand how the woman he had “given his entire youth to” could leave.
He described himself as someone who has always tried to do good, admitting that while he may have faltered at times, he never intentionally hurt anyone. In his conversation, he spoke of breaking down before God, asking why life had brought him to such a painful juncture. According to him, faith was what eventually helped him navigate those dark moments.
Even after rebuilding his life and remarrying, Yograj said the sense of emptiness kept returning. His two children from his second marriage eventually moved to the United States, leaving him once again to face life alone.
“Time came full circle,” he reflected, noting that despite all his efforts, he found himself back at the very place where his emotional struggles had begun. He questioned what all his sacrifices and hard work had ultimately amounted to.
Describing his present life, Yograj painted a stark picture of solitude. He spends evenings by himself and often depends on others — sometimes acquaintances, sometimes strangers — to arrange his meals. Attempts to maintain domestic help also fell through, leaving him to manage on his own.
Despite the sense of abandonment, Yograj emphasized that he holds no resentment toward his family. He said he continues to love all of them deeply — from his children to his grandchildren — but does not wish to ask for anything in return.
In one of the most poignant parts of the interview, Yograj expressed a sense of resignation and acceptance about life’s trajectory. Saying he felt his life had run its course, he added that he is prepared for whatever comes next.
“My life is complete. Whenever God decides, I am ready. I only feel gratitude — He keeps giving, and I keep praying,” he said.
Yograj’s candid remarks have stirred widespread discussion about loneliness, family estrangement, and the emotional battles endured behind the public spotlight.
