New Delhi— Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with his first National Film Award for Best Actor on Tuesday, over three decades into his illustrious career. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi, recognizing SRK’s performance in Atlee’s blockbuster Jawan, released in September 2023.
Dressed in a black suit, the 59-year-old actor expressed immense gratitude, thanking the jury, the I&B Ministry, his family, and his film team for their support. “To be honoured with the National Award is a moment that I will cherish for a lifetime,” he said, recalling the unwavering encouragement from his wife and children throughout his cinematic journey.
Shah Rukh flew back to Delhi from overseas where he is shooting for King, his upcoming film co-starring his daughter Suhana Khan and Deepika Padukone. This marks the sixth collaboration between SRK and Deepika, who recently shared behind-the-scenes glimpses of the shoot on Instagram, reflecting on the lessons she learned from him nearly 18 years ago during Om Shanti Om.
Jawan had showcased Shah Rukh in a dual role, blending action, emotion, and intensity, earning both critical acclaim and massive box office success.
With this award, SRK adds a prestigious national recognition to his long list of accolades, solidifying his position as one of Bollywood’s most enduring icons.
