Mumbai: Actress Priya Marathe, widely recognized for her memorable roles in television and Marathi cinema, passed away peacefully at her home in Mira Road, Mumbai, following a prolonged battle with cancer. She was 38 years old.
Priya had been privately fighting cancer for over a year, undergoing treatment while keeping her health struggles largely away from the public eye. Despite the medical efforts, her condition worsened, leading to her untimely demise.
Her last social media activity dates back to 2024, when she shared moments from a trip to Amer Fort in Jaipur with her husband, fellow actor Shantanu Moghe. Prior to that, she had posted a striking image of herself adorned in traditional Marathi attire, including a nauvari saree and nath, reflecting her deep connection with her cultural roots.
Born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai, Priya Marathe carved a niche for herself in both Marathi and Hindi entertainment industries. She rose to prominence with her role as Varsha in the acclaimed television series Pavitra Rishta, which earned her a special place in viewers’ hearts. Her performances as Vidya Bali in Kasamh Se and Jyoti Malhotra in Bade Acche Lagte Hain further showcased her talent and versatility.
Priya’s artistic journey spanned diverse genres, from intense drama to comedy. She captivated audiences in shows like Char Divas Sasuche, Tu Tithe Mi, Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji, Ya Sukhano Ya, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap. Additionally, she displayed her comedic flair in the inaugural season of Comedy Circus, delighting fans with her vibrant screen presence.
In 2023, Priya withdrew from the Marathi serial Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe citing health reasons. Since then, she remained mostly out of the public spotlight, fueling speculation about her illness, which she bravely fought in privacy.
