Mumbai: The Bollywood fraternity and fans of the late Dharmendra are preparing for a prayer meeting in his memory later this week, a few days after the legendary actor’s passing. Sources close to the family confirmed that the venue for the event in Mumbai is still being finalised.
Dharmendra, the 89-year-old “He-Man of Bollywood,” passed away on November 24, 2025, at his Mumbai residence following a prolonged illness, just days before he would have turned 90. The Deol family conducted his last rites privately at the Pawan Hans Seva crematorium in Juhu on Monday, marking a low-key farewell compared to the state-honored funerals of other Bollywood icons.
Since his passing, prominent figures from the film industry have visited the Deol residence to pay respects. Hema Malini, Prakash Kaur, and their sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol were among the first family members at the home, followed by several Bollywood colleagues over the next two days.
Dharmendra had been hospitalised earlier this month at Breach Candy Hospital for routine checkups, but respiratory complications led to him being placed on ventilator support. After 12 days, he was discharged and continued treatment at home, where he eventually passed away.
The actor is survived by his first wife Prakash Kaur, children Sunny, Bobby, Ajita, and Vijayta, and his second wife Hema Malini, along with daughters Esha and Ahana.
Spanning over six decades, Dharmendra appeared in more than 300 films, leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema. His performances in classics such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam, Anupama, and Seeta Aur Geeta earned him a permanent place in the hearts of audiences. He collaborated with filmmakers across generations, from Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Ramesh Sippy to J.P. Dutta and Karan Johar, showcasing his versatility and enduring appeal.
The upcoming prayer meet is expected to draw family, friends, and admirers, offering a chance for the industry and fans to collectively honour the life and legacy of one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic stars.
