New Delhi: In a dramatic early morning operation on Thursday, Delhi Police apprehended two suspects linked to an alleged assassination attempt targeting comedian Munawar Faruqui. The arrests followed a brief exchange of gunfire on the Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Road in the national capital.
The accused, identified as Rahul from Panipat and Sahil from Bhiwani, both in Haryana, are believed to be associated with the Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar-Virendra Charan gang, which police say had received overseas instructions to eliminate Munawar Faruqui.
Investigators revealed that the suspects had been tracking the comedian’s movements in Mumbai and Bengaluru, gathering intelligence ahead of a possible attack. Authorities suspect that the plot was orchestrated by gangster Rohit Godara, who is reportedly operating from abroad in coordination with Canada-based Goldy Brar and their associate Virendra Charan.
During the encounter, Rahul sustained a gunshot wound and was later admitted to a hospital under police custody. Police confirmed he was already wanted in connection with a triple homicide in Yamunanagar, Haryana, dating back to December 2024.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) confirmed that a cache of weapons and a motorcycle used by the accused have been recovered from the scene. The encounter reportedly occurred during a routine surveillance patrol when police tried to intercept the duo, leading to a brief exchange of fire.
The foiled attempt has sparked concern over the continued reach of organized criminal networks operating across state and international borders, particularly in targeting public figures. Further investigation is underway to trace additional members of the gang and uncover the full extent of the conspiracy.
