MUMBAI — Reassuring news has emerged regarding the health of the legendary screenwriter Salim Khan, who has been hospitalised since February 17. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan shared an optimistic update with the media during an event on Wednesday, February 25, stating that the veteran writer is recovering well and is expected to return home soon. While Salim Khan remains in the intensive care unit (ICU) for observation, his family has indicated a steady improvement in his condition over the past week.
During his media interaction, Aamir Khan mentioned that although he visited the hospital, he was unable to meet the 90-year-old personally due to the strict protocols of the ICU. Instead, he spent time with the family, including Salim’s daughter, Alvira Agnihotri, who has been providing daily updates on her father’s progress. Aamir noted that the family is heartened by the daily improvements and expressed the collective hope of the film fraternity for a swift recovery and a return to his full health.
Salim Khan was admitted to the hospital after suffering what medical professionals have described as a “very minimal” brain haemorrhage. Dr Jalil Parkar clarified that the condition was stable and did not require any surgical intervention, explaining that the medical team performed a standard procedure to manage the situation. The absence of surgery is a positive indicator for the veteran’s recovery process, and he is being kept under close watch primarily for precautionary monitoring given his age.
The hospital has seen a steady stream of visitors from the film industry over the past few days, reflecting the profound respect colleagues hold for the “Sholay” co-writer. Notable figures including his long-time partner Javed Akhtar, along with Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, Rahul Roy, and Sangeeta Bijlani, have visited the facility to offer their support to the Khan family. As the news of his steady improvement circulates, the industry remains hopeful that the elder statesman of Indian cinema will be discharged and back in the comfort of his home shortly.
