NEW DELHI: A six-year-old child was severely injured in a savage attack by a Pitbull dog in Prem Nagar, Rohini, Delhi, prompting the immediate arrest of the dog’s owner. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, occurred late Monday afternoon while the child, identified as Devang, was playing near his home in Vinay Enclave.
Police received a PCR call at 5:38 PM regarding the attack. According to the victim’s father, Dinesh, who works at a private factory, his neighbor Rajesh Pal’s Pitbull escaped from the house and lunged at Devang as he retrieved a ball near a wall. Although a woman attempted to intervene, the dog overpowered the child. Devang tried to flee down the lane, but the Pitbull caught him, causing him to fall to the ground. The dog severely mauled the child’s body, including biting off a portion of his right ear. Neighbors rushed to the scene to separate the dog from the child, who was already gravely wounded. Devang was first taken to a private hospital in Rohini Sector 6 but was subsequently referred to Safdarjung Hospital due to his critical condition, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The Prem Nagar Police Station registered a case, and the dog’s owner, Rajesh Pal, was swiftly arrested. During questioning, it was revealed that the dog was brought home by Rajesh Pal’s son, Sachin, approximately eighteen months ago. Sachin is currently incarcerated in connection with an attempted murder case. The incident has raised serious concerns among residents about the safety of keeping potentially dangerous dog breeds in residential areas.
