Delhi: Residents in several areas of the national capital experienced brief tremors on Monday morning after a minor earthquake struck the region, prompting momentary concern but no reports of damage or injuries.

Seismological data confirmed that the quake measured 2.8 on the Richter scale and occurred at around 8:44 am. The tremor originated at a shallow depth of approximately five kilometres, which often makes even low-intensity earthquakes noticeable at the surface.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) identified North Delhi as the epicentral region of the seismic activity. In an official update shared on social media, the agency provided the geographical coordinates and technical details of the event, confirming its low magnitude.

Given its limited strength, the earthquake was classified as minor, and experts said it was unlikely to cause structural damage. However, shallow tremors can still be felt by people indoors, especially in high-rise buildings, which may explain reports of residents sensing brief shaking.

Delhi lies in a seismically active zone and frequently experiences low to moderate tremors. Authorities have advised citizens to remain calm and follow standard safety guidelines, even during mild seismic events.
