DUSU Elections 2025: Security Tightened at North Campus as Vote Counting Begins Amid Tensions

New Delhi: As Delhi University prepares to declare the results of one of the country’s most closely watched student elections, heavy security has been deployed across North Campus on Friday morning ahead of the vote-counting process for the 2025 Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) polls. (DUSU Elections 2025)

The counting is taking place at the University Sports Complex, where barricades have been erected and large contingents of police have been stationed to prevent any potential unrest. Security forces have been instructed to maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward any disruptions.

Voting Concludes Amid High Enthusiasm, Allegations Fly

The voting for DUSU 2025 concluded on Thursday in two shifts—morning and evening—covering thousands of students from across Delhi University’s numerous colleges. Despite soaring temperatures, student turnout remained strong, underlining the significance of the DUSU polls in shaping campus politics and student welfare.

But even before the votes are fully counted, the atmosphere has turned politically charged, with both the ABVP and NSUI trading barbs.

NSUI Alleges Pressure, Says Students Are Being Intimidated

Varun Choudhary, National President of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), accused the university administration of bias. “There is clear intimidation on campus—police and ABVP affiliates are harassing students. I’ve never witnessed such a situation in my 15 years of student politics,” Choudhary said.

He also questioned the presence of political figures and alleged undue interference, calling for free and fair counting. NSUI’s presidential candidate, Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, echoed his concerns but remained optimistic. (DUSU Elections 2025)

“The support we’ve received this time is overwhelming. We’re confident of winning all four seats,” said Joslyn, who campaigned heavily on women’s safety, menstrual leave, increased surveillance, and improved hostel facilities.

ABVP Counters with Confidence, Promises Digital and Transport Reforms

Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is also claiming strong support. Kunal Chaudhary, the outfit’s candidate for Secretary, declared, “We’re heading for a clean sweep—4-0. Students have backed us because of our promises like free campus Wi-Fi and metro pass provisions.”

Both sides have mobilized significant volunteer support, and student organizations have been active on social media throughout the campaign, drawing attention to key issues such as safety, digital access, and administrative transparency.

Historic Election with Female Leadership in Focus

This year’s election has attracted extra attention due to the strong presence of women candidates, with Joslyn Nandita Choudhary aiming to become one of the few female DUSU presidents in recent history. Her campaign put gender inclusivity and student welfare at the forefront, striking a chord with a large section of the university population.

Results Awaited Amid Tight Security

With counting now underway, authorities have urged all stakeholders to maintain calm. “All necessary precautions are in place to ensure law and order. No one will be allowed to disrupt the process,” a senior police official stationed at the North Campus said.

The results of the DUSU elections, once declared, will not only determine the student leadership for the coming year but also serve as a barometer for the national mood among youth—often seen as a precursor to broader political sentiments on campuses across India.
