Delhi: Air quality in the national capital remained a concern on Thursday, with pollution levels slipping into the “very poor” bracket, according to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 313, reflecting unhealthy conditions for residents, particularly those with respiratory ailments.

Alongside poor air quality, Delhi also experienced a chilly start to the day. The minimum temperature was recorded at 6.3 degrees Celsius, which is about 1.2 degrees lower than the seasonal norm. Weather officials expect the maximum temperature to hover around 25 degrees Celsius during the day.

Temperature variations were noted across different parts of the city. Palam recorded a minimum of 8 degrees Celsius, while Lodhi Road reported 6.7 degrees Celsius, both below their usual averages for this time of year. The Ridge area saw the mercury drop to 9.2 degrees Celsius, slightly under normal levels, and Ayanagar recorded a low of 7.3 degrees Celsius.

High moisture levels added to the winter chill, with relative humidity touching 100 percent at 8:30 am, creating conditions conducive to fog formation. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate fog during the day, while thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely on Friday, which could offer temporary relief from pollution levels.

As per CPCB standards, AQI readings between 301 and 400 fall under the “very poor” category, indicating increased health risks from prolonged exposure. Authorities continue to advise residents to limit outdoor activities, especially during early morning hours, until air quality shows improvement.
