Chandigarh– Continuous heavy rainfall since morning has severely impacted daily life in Punjab and Chandigarh, raising fresh concerns among residents. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for today, warning of more intense showers.
In Chandigarh, the water level of Sukhna Lake has crossed the danger mark at 1162 feet, forcing authorities to open floodgates at 7 am. Meanwhile, the strong flow of the Rao River has damaged the road connecting Khudda Lahora to Nayagaon, adding to public worries.
As a precautionary measure, all schools have been closed today. Officials said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of students and parents amid the weather emergency.
Traffic police have also issued advisories for commuters due to waterlogging on several key routes. The affected stretches include South Marg (Dhanas), the road behind ISBT-43, South Marg (Sector-23D), Makhan Majra, the Sector 10/11 dividing road near Sector-10, and Sector-15A and 15B. Citizens have been urged to exercise caution and use alternative routes wherever possible.
