CHANDIGARH — A 21-year-old state-level hockey player was tragically killed in Sector 38 on Thursday evening following a violent confrontation over a long-standing family property dispute. The victim, identified as Tania, succumbed to a fatal stab wound shortly after being rushed to a local hospital. The incident has sent shockwaves through the sporting community, coming just hours before she was set to represent her region in a major competition.
According to the Chandigarh Police, the tragedy was the result of a simmering feud between two families residing in the same house. Tania’s father, Ravi, an auto-rickshaw driver, explained in his formal complaint that his sister’s family occupied the first floor of the building. The ownership of the property had been a point of contention for months, with Ravi’s nephew, Krishna, frequently engaging in heated arguments over the matter. On Thursday afternoon, the tension reached a breaking point during yet another domestic quarrel.
Ravi recounted that he had gone upstairs to attempt to calm his sister’s family and was in the process of returning when Tania went up to the first floor. During a sudden and chaotic altercation, Krishna—allegedly assisted by several others including Gangan, Aniket, Naveen, and Tina—attacked the young athlete. Krishna reportedly used a knife to stab Tania near her waist, inflicting a deep and critical wound. Despite being rushed to the hospital immediately after the assault, doctors were unable to save her life and declared her dead on arrival.
The Sector 39 Police Station has registered a formal case based on the statement provided by the victim’s father. While the accused individuals fled the scene following the stabbing, authorities have confirmed that multiple teams are currently conducting raids across the city to apprehend Krishna and the other named suspects. Forensic teams have also visited the residence to collect evidence related to the fatal struggle.
The loss is particularly poignant as Tania was a rising star in the local hockey circuit. Having recently completed her graduation, she was deeply committed to her sport and was scheduled to depart on Friday, March 6, to participate in a state-level tournament. Instead of celebrating a potential victory on the field, her family and teammates are now mourning a life cut short by a senseless act of domestic violence.
