Chandigarh: A minor fire incident was reported at the blood bank of Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, during the early hours of Tuesday. Prompt action by hospital staff and security personnel ensured the situation was brought under control before it could escalate.

According to hospital officials, the fire was first noticed by employees on duty, who immediately informed the security team. Responding swiftly, security personnel managed to extinguish the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to other sections of the facility.

Senior officials, including the Director Health Services (DHS), Medical Superintendent, Deputy Medical Superintendent, and the Blood Bank Incharge, reached the site soon after the incident. They reviewed the situation and instructed staff to implement all necessary safety measures while ensuring that blood bank operations continued without interruption.

Initial findings suggest that the fire may have originated from a short circuit in an air-conditioning unit installed within the blood bank premises. The affected area was isolated as a precaution, and safety protocols were activated to prevent any further risk.

Officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported. They also stated that blood reserves, medical equipment, records, and infrastructure remained largely unaffected.

Hospital authorities reassured the public that all blood bank services are functioning normally and that there has been no disruption to patient care following the incident.
