Mohali: In a chilling early morning incident, a local gym owner was seriously injured after being shot multiple times outside his gym in Phase 2, Mohali. The attack, which took place around 4:50 AM on Thursday, is being treated as a targeted assault, with links to another firing incident in Chandigarh later that morning.
Targeted Attack Leaves Gym Owner Battling for Life
The victim, identified as Vicky, was reportedly resting inside his Baleno car parked outside the gym when two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle approached and opened fire. A total of five shots were fired, with four bullets striking Vicky, primarily in the legs.
A gym trainer present at the time acted swiftly, rushing the injured man to Indus Hospital on his bike. Due to the severity of his injuries, doctors referred Vicky to a hospital in Chandigarh for advanced treatment.
CCTV Footage Captures Attackers Fleeing Scene
Shortly after the incident, surveillance footage from the area was recovered, revealing key details. The video captures the sounds of gunfire and shows the attackers fleeing the scene on a motorbike. Authorities are currently analyzing the footage to identify the suspects.
“We are closely reviewing the footage and working with both Mohali and Chandigarh police teams,” said a senior police official from Phase-1 police station, who is leading the investigation.
Chandigarh Hotel Also Targeted in Related Incident
In a twist to the case, officials have confirmed that another firing incident occurred hours later at a hotel in Kazhedi, Chandigarh, believed to be owned by one of Vicky’s acquaintances. This has raised suspicions that the two shootings may be connected and part of a broader dispute.
Sources indicate that threats had been issued from within jail by known criminal elements, suggesting a possible gangland angle. However, authorities have not officially confirmed any motive as yet.
Family Suspects Longstanding Enmity Behind Attack
Family members of the injured gym owner have claimed that the attack stems from an ongoing personal rivalry, though they declined to name any specific individuals. Police have recorded statements and are now probing possible links to previous disputes involving the victim.
