Chandigarh: Several educational institutions in Chandigarh were placed on high alert on Thursday morning after receiving fresh bomb threat emails, prompting swift action from security agencies and local police.
Teams from the Chandigarh Police, accompanied by bomb disposal and detection squads, were immediately dispatched to the affected campuses after school authorities reported the threatening messages. Extensive searches were carried out across the premises to ensure the safety of students and staff.
After detailed inspections, officials declared the buildings secure and permitted schools to resume normal academic activities.
Among the institutions that reportedly received the emails were St. Stephen’s School, Delhi Public School and Chitkara International School. Authorities believe additional schools may receive similar messages during the day, as seen in previous incidents.
This marks yet another episode in a series of bomb scare threats that have unsettled the city in recent months. Apart from schools, prominent public institutions including the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh have also been targeted with similar emails earlier this year.
Police officials stated that investigations are underway to trace the origin of the messages and identify those responsible. Cybercrime units are also assisting in the probe.
Meanwhile, Chandigarh Police has appealed to residents not to circulate unverified information or panic-inducing rumours on social media platforms. Security measures across key public places and educational institutions have been intensified as a precaution.
This is the fourth reported bomb threat involving schools in Chandigarh within the past few months, raising growing concerns over public safety and misuse of digital communication channels.
