Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration has launched a major action against Nexus Elante Mall, located in Industrial Area Phase-1, after discovering large-scale structural violations spanning nearly 35,040 square feet. Officials began demolition work early Sunday morning following the issuance of a show-cause notice to the mall management. Local police and administrative officers were present during the operation to ensure smooth proceedings.
According to officials, Assistant Estate Officer and SDM (East) Khushpreet Kaur issued the notice on Saturday to M/s CSJ Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., which manages the mall. The notice directed the management to explain why legal action should not be initiated for the unauthorized construction and encroachments identified.
The Estate Office inspection revealed at least ten major violations of the approved building plan. The most serious among them was the conversion of approximately 22,000 square feet of parking space—originally designated for vehicles—into landscaped and green areas, which is a direct breach of zoning regulations.
The inspection had been carried out on August 8, but despite two months’ notice and hearings, the management failed to rectify the irregularities. As a result, authorities have decided to impose a penalty of ₹8 per square foot per day until compliance is achieved.
Officials confirmed that the action has been taken under the provisions of the Chandigarh Estate Rules, 2007 and the Punjab Capital (Development and Regulation) Act, 1952. The administration emphasized that no commercial complex, regardless of scale, will be permitted to violate urban planning or structural norms within the city.
The Estate Office stated that such actions are crucial to uphold urban discipline and ensure fairness among all commercial property owners in Chandigarh.
