Chandigarh: Panic briefly gripped the District Court complex in Sector 43 on Friday after authorities received a bomb threat, prompting an immediate security response and evacuation of the premises.
According to police officials, courtrooms and surrounding areas were cleared as a precautionary measure soon after the alert was received. Specialised teams, including a dog squad and bomb disposal unit, were deployed to thoroughly inspect the complex.
Sub-Inspector Asha Devi confirmed that senior police officers supervised the operation while security agencies conducted a detailed sweep of the building. “The entire court premises were vacated and checked carefully. No suspicious or explosive material was detected during the search,” she said.
After the inspection concluded and the threat was found to be unfounded, normalcy was gradually restored. Police have initiated an inquiry to trace the source of the threat and determine whether it was a hoax call.
Officials reiterated that strict security protocols are in place to ensure the safety of court staff, lawyers, litigants, and visitors, and assured that any such alerts are treated with utmost seriousness.
