Ludhiana: A heartbreaking incident in Ludhiana on Saturday morning left the entire locality in shock after a one-year-old boy, Arjun, lost his life while playing with matchsticks. The tragic event occurred around 10 a.m. and has cast a deep pall of grief over the neighborhood.
According to initial reports, the accident followed a family dispute that took place the previous night. Arjun’s mother, Reena Devi, told authorities that she and her husband had argued late Friday, and he left home early in the morning without eating. Hoping to reconcile, Reena went to the factory where her husband worked to deliver food to him.
Meanwhile, Arjun and his siblings were at home. The children were reportedly playing with matchsticks when a spark fell on Arjun, who was wrapped in a blanket. Within seconds, the blanket caught fire, engulfing the infant in flames.
When Reena returned, she saw smoke rising from the house and rushed inside, only to find her baby severely burnt. Arjun’s father arrived shortly after and immediately took him to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Family members said that what began as innocent play with matchsticks turned into a fatal accident, taking away their only infant son.
The tragedy has left residents of Bhamian area grief-stricken. Neighbors have expressed deep sorrow and urged parents to keep dangerous items like matchboxes out of children’s reach to prevent such devastating accidents in the future.
