Bhopal: More than 60 people, primarily children aged between 8 and 14, were admitted to hospitals in Bhopal after sustaining injuries from the use of calcium carbide guns during Diwali celebrations, officials reported on Thursday.

While authorities confirmed that there is no immediate threat to life, several victims have suffered serious injuries, including loss of eyesight and facial burns, highlighting the dangers of these illegal firecrackers.

Chief Medical Health Officer (CMHO) Manish Sharma told PTI Videos, “Carbide pipe guns are extremely hazardous. The 60 injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals across the city. All are stable and under medical care.”

The incident has raised concerns over the use of illegal and unsafe firecrackers, particularly carbide-based devices, which are prohibited due to their high risk of causing severe injuries. Officials have urged parents and communities to ensure that children avoid using such devices and to rely on safer alternatives during celebrations.

Authorities have also reminded the public that violations involving carbide crackers can lead to legal consequences, and they continue to emphasize safety awareness campaigns ahead of festive seasons to prevent similar accidents in the future.

This Diwali, the tragic incidents serve as a reminder of the hazards of unsafe fireworks, urging stricter adherence to regulations to protect the younger population during festivities.
