Clear Skies Boost Tourist Footfall Across Himachal Pradesh’s Hill Stations

Shimla: With sunshine bathing the hills and crisp air replacing the monsoon chill, Himachal Pradesh is witnessing a steady surge in tourist arrivals. The past week has brought clear, dry weather across most parts of the state, making it an ideal getaway as the festive season approaches.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather is expected to remain stable and mostly sunny in the coming days, with no major western disturbances forecasted till Diwali. This favorable forecast has sparked a noticeable uptick in tourist activity in popular destinations like Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, and Dalhousie.

“We’ve seen a nearly 30% increase in tourist numbers compared to last week. The clear skies and mild temperatures have definitely played a part,” said an official from the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department.

Weather Conditions Remain Comfortable

As per the latest data, daytime temperatures across the state remain within normal ranges, while night temperatures are hovering just 0.6°C above average. The combination of gentle warmth during the day and cool, crisp nights has made outdoor activities — from trekking and sightseeing to camping — particularly appealing.

In Shimla, the capital city, maximum temperatures have been settling around 21°C, while nighttime lows have dipped to a comfortable 12°C. Hill towns at higher altitudes are experiencing colder nights but have largely remained frost-free so far.

“This is perhaps the best time of year for tourism in Himachal,” said Ritu Verma, a travel agent based in Kullu. “There’s no snow yet, so roads are open, skies are blue, and there’s none of the summer rush.”

Diwali Season Expected to Bring Further Boost

With Diwali just around the corner, local businesses are anticipating an even stronger wave of visitors. Hoteliers report a sharp increase in advance bookings, especially from families and honeymooners seeking a scenic break during the long holiday weekend.

“We’re fully booked through the Diwali weekend,” said Rajesh Thakur, who manages a boutique hotel in Manali. “People are looking to escape urban pollution and enjoy the clean mountain air.”

The Himachal Pradesh government has also stepped up tourism promotion efforts, encouraging eco-tourism, adventure sports, and cultural festivals to keep visitors engaged beyond the usual tourist trails.

Advisory for Travellers

While the weather remains largely pleasant, the IMD has advised travelers heading to higher altitudes to be prepared for chilly nights and fluctuating temperatures after sundown. Visitors are also encouraged to book accommodations in advance due to high demand during the festive season.

As the golden autumn continues to unfold over the Himalayan foothills, Himachal Pradesh appears poised for a busy — and beautiful — tourism spell.
