Bengaluru: A 21-year-old student of a private engineering college in Bengaluru has been arrested for allegedly raping his senior inside the men’s washroom on campus, police said on Friday.
According to officials, the accused, a fifth-semester student, was known to the victim, who is pursuing her seventh semester at the same college. The incident reportedly took place on October 10, but the victim approached police on October 15 after informing her parents.
In her complaint filed at Hanumanthanagar Police Station, the woman alleged that the accused repeatedly called her during the lunch break, asking her to meet him near the architecture block on the seventh floor. When she met him, he allegedly tried to kiss her and then forcibly did so. As she attempted to leave, the accused followed her to the sixth floor, dragged her into the men’s washroom, locked the door, and raped her.
The woman further stated that the accused took away her phone when one of her friends tried to contact her during the assault. Later, he allegedly called her and asked if she “needed a pill.”
After confiding in her friends, the victim told her parents, who urged her to report the matter to the police. The accused has been arrested under Section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and remanded to judicial custody by a local court.
Police have initiated a detailed investigation and said appropriate action will be taken following the forensic and medical examination reports.
