Chennai: A potential in-flight emergency was averted on Saturday when the pilot of an IndiGo flight from Madurai to Chennai detected a crack in the aircraft’s windshield shortly before landing.

The flight, which was carrying 76 passengers, was approaching Chennai airport when the crack in the front windshield came to the pilot’s attention. According to airport officials, the pilot immediately alerted air traffic control, prompting swift preparations on the ground to ensure a safe landing.

The aircraft touched down without incident, and all passengers were safely disembarked after the plane was directed to a separate parking area as a precautionary measure.

Maintenance crews are currently assessing the damage, and arrangements are underway to replace the damaged windshield. The exact cause of the crack is still under investigation, officials said.

As a result of the incident, the aircraft’s scheduled return flight to Madurai was cancelled, leaving some travel plans disrupted. IndiGo has yet to release an official statement on the matter.

This event highlights the importance of routine safety checks and swift action by flight crews. Despite the mid-air issue, no injuries were reported, and aviation authorities have confirmed that all necessary safety protocols were followed.
