Guwahati: Two personal security officers (PSOs) of singer Zubeen Garg have been arrested in connection with his death in Singapore last month, Assam Police officials confirmed on Friday.
The arrested officers, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, who were assigned to Garg’s security by the government, had been suspended earlier this week after multiple rounds of questioning. Authorities raised suspicions following financial transactions worth several lakhs of rupees conducted through their bank accounts.
With these arrests, the total number of individuals taken into custody in relation to Garg’s death now stands at seven. Previously, police had arrested North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s cousin Sandipan Garg, his manager Siddhartha Sharma, musician Shekharjyoti Goswami, and singer Amritprava Mahanta.
Zubeen Garg, a cultural icon in Assam and the broader North East, died while swimming in Singapore on September 19. He had traveled to the Southeast Asian nation to participate in the North East India Festival.
