Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang has called for the introduction of direct international flights from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali. During a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Kang emphasized the importance of this initiative and shared the details of the discussion on social media.
In a post on X, Kang stated, “Yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet Hon’ble Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Ji to strongly advocate for direct international flights from Mohali.” He mentioned that the airport, which is named after a national hero, has the potential to become a key international gateway for the northern part of India.
Kang specifically asked for flights to major cities in Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, as these are locations where a significant portion of the Punjabi community lives abroad.
He pointed out that this development would be beneficial for travelers and also help reduce the overcrowding at Delhi airport.
He further said, “It is time to alleviate the pressure on Delhi airport and establish Chandigarh as a leading international aviation center.
I urge the Union Government to meet this long-awaited demand of Punjabis around the world.”
This appeal has brought attention to the increasing need for better air connections in the region, which could greatly enhance trade, tourism, and travel convenience for a large number of people.
