Ahmedabad: India crushed West Indies by 140 runs on the third day of the first Test here, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. After declaring overnight at 448 for five, India’s bowlers tore through the Windies’ batting line-up, bundling them out for 146 in the second innings.

Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj were the standout performers with the ball. Jadeja claimed 4 wickets for 54 runs, while Siraj picked up 3 for 31, completing a fine seven-wicket match haul that underlined his recent impressive form.

For the visitors, Alick Athanaze top-scored with 38, followed by Justin Greaves with 25, but their efforts were in vain against the relentless Indian attack.

Brief Scores:

India: 448/5 declared (128 overs)

West Indies: 162 all out & 146 all out (45.1 overs)

Top scorer: Alick Athanaze 38
